How Acquired: Drafted in fourth round of 1998 WNBA draft held April 29 (#37 overall).

1999 WNBA Season: Scored a season-high six points by hitting 2-of-3 three-pointers and grabbed a career-high tying three rebounds vs. Houston on July 23, 1999 ... Made both of her free throw attempts on the season to run her consecutive streak to eight.

1998 WNBA Season: Scored a career high eight points in seven minutes of playing time on 4-of-5 shooting in the season finale against Washington ... Handed out a career-high three assists in just five minutes of action against Utah on July 22 ... Grabbed a career-high three rebounds in Charlotte's come from behind victory over Phoenix on July 4 ... Played in 23 0f 30 games this season and hit 50 percent of her shots ... Hit all six of her 1998 free throw attempts.

Notes on Chase as a Draftee: In the fourth round, the Sting were able to select Sonia Chase from the University of Maryland. Chase led the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in steals her senior season and finished eighth in scoring (13.6 ppg). "I don't know how she was still available (in the fourth round), but I'm glad she was," said Marynell Meadors, Head Coach and General Manager of the Charlotte Sting (1996-1999). "Her ability to change the outlook of a game with her athleticism, her desire to win and her competitive nature will give us a tremendous boost this summer. "But most importantly," Meadors adds, "she was the defensive stopper on the Terrapin team and takes pride in her ability to shut down an opponent's best scorer. She will definitely be a great asset to our team both offensively but especially defensively."
