About the Project

I have a dream.

I dream of a place where I can go and watch a HUGE TV anytime I want. Or sit at my own bar. Or turn up the music REALLY loud. Or have the poker game at MY house for a change. Where, oh where, can that place be?

The place where ALL married men end up, of course...the basement!

But it needs work. And I'm just the guy to do it. At least I think I am. I don't really know what I'm in for, but I'm willing to find out. I'm pretty handy around the house, but I've never tried anything this ambitious before. I've read dozens of websites and forums and I'm convinced that I CAN do it myself. I think the key is patience, and I'm full of it (that may not be what my wife thinks I'm full of, but what are you gonna do?). Also, I'm not on a schedule. When it gets done, it gets done. Although I am anxious to get it done. I've read so much that I'm getting overloaded with details and choices. I think it's time to

JUST DO IT!

My plan (dream!) is to finish my unfinished basement. I'm planing on adding a front projection system with a high quality sound system, a wet bar, an area for a game/poker table, a full bath and some storage for my wife. Gotta please the wife, you know.

My house is a two story brick front colonial, 4BR, 2.5 Bath, 2 car garage with a nearly full, unfinished basement. It was built around 1992 and we bought it in October 2002, so it is still in pretty good shape. The builder had an option to finish the basement and roughed in the drains for a full bath. That's good. Except that I'm stuck with using the builder's floorplan to finish it, unless I want to go moving all the mechanicals and drain lines. Which I don't. The original owners opted for the laundry room on the second floor, which gives a little more room down there. The only drawback is that there is a sunken family room above the area I want to use for the front projector, so the ceiling will be low in that area. The rest of the ceiling height should be OK.

I think I can make it work for what I want to do.

Here is the floorplan I expect to end up with....
